When we think about french designers, we necessarily thing about Jean-Paul Gaultier. He is a French haute couture and prêt-à-porter fashion designer. He was the creative director of Hermès from 2003 to 2010. After many experiences in the homes of Pierre Cardin, Jacques Esterel, Jean Patou and Pierre Cardin again in the 1970s, he launched his first collection under his name. In the 1980s, a major figure in this wave of young designers who revolutionize fashion, it becomes unavoidable. His spectacular parades, one after the other, overturn the conventions of clothing.

During these years, through the counterfoot that often characterizes his achievements, he dresses men as women, shakes up the gay movement, makes "top models" march past whom he meets in the street, dresses women in corsets. A great cutting professional and mastering the classics of couture, creative and not only provocative, his collections also sometimes combine humor and misuse. The sailor, one of her symbols, was present from 1983 onwards in her first men's collection, the first men's skirt two years later.

In the 1990s, Jean Paul Gaultier Parfums was born, it is also at that time that Madonna wears the famous bustier with conical cups. While the generation of designers of the 1980s refused the conformism of haute couture incarnated at the time by Yves Saint Laurent or Carven, Jean Paul Gaultier presents - with success - his first collection under this name in 1997. He is rewarded soon after by the CFDA.

In 2004, Jean Paul Gaultier led, in parallel with activities in his name, the creation of the ready-to-wear Hermès for six years. Over the years, he also launched complementary lines such as Junior Gaultier, Gaultier Jean, JPG, or the unisex Gaultier line, as well as a luxurious lingerie collection with the Italian manufacturer La Perla.

If he is frequently nicknamed "the enfant terrible of fashion" by the media, Jean-Paul Gaultier, a fashion designer, with his traditional hairstyle brush, is considered worldwide as a symbol of French culture, and is become a fashion icon.

He has also created costumes for the cinema and for various live shows.
